About

The idea of K9 Fun was born in early 2014. Many dogs end up in pounds or being put down because of behavioural problems. While many behavioural problems have their roots in the puppy period of a dog's life (e.g. due to the lack of socialisation), the lack of training and management of our dogs just adds to this problem.

There is a trend for people to own active dogs while our lives are very busy and the time we can dedicate to our dogs is limited. Mental stimulation for most dogs is as important as physical exercise. Ongoing training from puppyhood until old age will help to keep your dog well balanced and behaved.

But training dogs often stops after puppy school, mostly just because we are poor of time and it looses the fun factor. So what if training would be fun again? This was when Kerstin had the idea of K9 Fun.

Kerstin & Benji

Since her childhood when growing up on a farm, Kerstin had a passion for training animals. Starting to school her 13 cats, she then got her first dog aged 10 years and his name was Strolch (German for 'vagabond' - which he truly was). This was when her admiration for canines started. At the age of 14, Kerstin then rescued Benny, a German Spitz who became her most loyal mate and her inspiration for the work she is doing today.

In March 2015, Kerstin was lucky to find her new 'partner in crime' in one of Sydney's shelters. Benji - a 2 year old male Spitz - is her constant source of entertainment, inspiration and keeps her on her trainer toes.

Kerstin is a certified dog trainer (National Dog Trainers Federation). By attending many seminars and continuous study, Kerstin keeps up to date with training concepts, methods and science. She is currently working on her certification to become a K9 Nosework Instructor.
Kerstin is truly passionate about her work and has trained dogs professionally since 2012.

Besides training dogs for a living, Kerstin volunteers as trainer and foster carer for Fetching Dogs and trains assistance dogs for Young Diggers.
Kerstin has worked overseas for Vets Beyond Borders as dog trainer to rehabilitate street dogs and as a bite prevention educator. She is proud to have trained the first group of dog trainers for the Government of Sikkim in India.
